Meet yoga teacher Mariel @mindfulsonder sharing her #yogasavedmylife story with us.

"Yoga has changed mine & my Mom's life - & our relationship - in countless ways, while starting my journey to find myself

That's a photo of me with my Mum @tanyawitmond . She first started doing yoga about 15 years ago & took me with her to one of my first yoga classes when I was visiting & so began my journey with yoga - & within

.

Growing up, my mother & I had a tumultuous relationship. I was difficult & independent, whereas she was sorting out her own baggage & thought I didn’t need her

.

Yoga & meditation changed our lives & helped mend our relationship, breaking unhealthy repetitive patterns that are passed down from generation to generation - helping me to become a better person as a result

.

.

Not only has my mom helped to pave the path I am currently on, but she is a daily source of inspiration & support

.

Fast forward over a decade to the last photo &, beautiful as it is, it was taken at a time when I felt completely & utterly lost

. .

I had done a lot of travelling that year as I had just left 11 years of corporate work & friends commented that I had such a life of luxury & how great it was to be me. I was ashamed to tell people I wasn’t working & at the same time dealing with health issues that all stemmed from stress

. .

I didn’t realise at the time that who I am & what I did were two separate things, & I had the power within me to live the life I longed for once I learned to quiet the negative voices in my head & that we all hold the answers we are looking for within us - they’re just hard to access when you’re living in autopilot

. .

I certainly didn’t know that part of my dream would be teaching yoga & inspiring others through my own personal story

. .

We all have a story to tell, not the stories we convince ourselves of that hold us back, but those stories of struggle to find ourselves & be ok with who we are, those stories of overcoming our own hurdles to shine. .

It is these stories that link our common humanity, our vulnerability & willingness to be seen - imperfectly perfect as we are" ❤ .
