"After the birth of my second child, I traumatically suffered from post partum anxiety"

Meet Whitney @brave_lotus_yoga This is her #yogasavedmylife story❤

"With the help of a nurse when we came home from the hospital, I was recovering, sleeping, spending time with my husband and daughter (so she wouldn’t feel left out) & NOT breastfeeding.  After all of the suffering I endured for 5 painful weeks trying to breast feed my daughter (i.e. tongue tie, lip tie, double mastitis - to name a few!) - I decided I didn’t need to go down that road with my son.  THIS I thought was the best way to outsmart the hormones.  I wouldn’t breastfeed & therefore, I wouldn’t feel trapped & depressed like I did the first time around.  I wouldn’t feel the crippling anxiety & depression i felt when I became a mother for the first time.  Mom plans = the universe laughs, & hands you whatever you were meant to go through

The baby nurse left & I had such bad anxiety that one night as everyone was peacefully sleeping in my house (even my newborn) - I contemplated jumping out the second floor window of my guest room.  The anxiety was so tremendous I couldn’t stand to be laying down & the bed felt like it was shaking. I had no intention of taking my life, I just wanted to feel a break, a sprain, something to JOLT the shaking & anxiety out of me, for the feeling to stop. Thats when i knew i had to get help

With a great support system, I got on the right medication & began to work out again.  I returned to my yoga practice after many years of  dabbling on and off the mat.  I took a hot yoga class at the gym & I was hooked.  Eventually, I found a wonderful studio to practice in.  Yoga gave me the permission to slow my mind down & focus on the breath.  It taught me how to listen to my body & not try to outsmart it by going 100 miles per hour

In January I decided to pursue 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with a private mentor.  In May, almost exactly one year from the time I gave birth to my son, I passed my Final.  I still have a ton more work to do, but quite simply #yogasavedmy life, & I plan on sharing the gift of yoga with others, especially moms, who may need the support ❤🙏
