"When I sit down to think about the impact yoga has had on me two major things come to mind - my mental health & my community. Of course there are physical benefits but I've found that my practice is more for my mental health than my physical health. I've had some rough patches but I've always found peace on my mat. I find that there is a noticeable difference in my attitude (I can get pretty cranky when I'm off my mat for too long!
.
But it's the community that has come with this practice that has been life changing for me. I work & practice at a hot studio in Hoboken @realhotyoganj & the friendships I have made from this studio truly saved my life
.
I'm originally from a small town in upstate New York & I moved to Hoboken to pursue my masters in Manhattan. It was a BIG change of pace for me. The city is a unique animal & I was definitely not prepared for it coming from a small town where I'd lived for 21 years
.
I was having panic attacks & break downs because of the change (New city, new challenges & work load being in a masters program, and on top of it all...no to mention going through a break up!
.
I knew I needed a home studio to ground myself. I started working at @realhotyoganj after my first class there. I've met the most incredible people by working behind the desk & teaching there. I consider the staff there more like family. I had found my niche in this big "scary" city ๐
.
Seeing this difference in myself, I made it my mission to help spread this to others. I have my masters in mental health counseling & recently completed my 200HR Teacher Training
. I love incorporating yoga into my sessions with clients & bringing mental health concepts into my classes. I also try my best to foster a positive community - & always try to get to know students. It brings me such a level of joy teaching yoga - catch me smiling like crazy & dancing around in my classes โบ๏ธ
