Meet @maryhelenyoga sharing her #yogasavedmylife story with us. These are her words 💚

"Unlike, drugs or alcohol, food isn't an addiction you can 'put down"

Since high school....change that, since childhood, I dealt with disordered eating that culminated in full blown anorexia when I was 17. Being a "good girl" addicted to perfection, I did what I needed to do to get discharged from the hospital and back home. I learned how to adapt and control the disease as best as I could"

.

"I began a regular yoga practice in the spring of 2008 to help rehab my hamstring that I injured while running. Yes, yoga helped my hamstring heal; it also changed my life

.

Yoga taught me that the body is a gift. "Your body is the child of the soul and you must nourish and train that child." BKS Iyengar

.

Yoga not only taught me how to love my body and be kind to myself, it also challenged me allowing me to dis-cover, accept and release the root of my addiction...shame. We must feel in order to heal. Yoga taught me how to feel and trust myself

.

As a teacher, it is my mission to inspire by action as I teach from my own experience. I often tell my students that our 'mess' becomes our message. Yoga works the body from the inside out. Yoga teaches us how to take best care of ourselves

.

As the philosophy of yoga deeply resonates with me, the physical practice of yoga transforms me, and the breath feeds me

.

"Breathe, relax and feel your body receive its own truth." With every fiber of my being, I believe in the system and without a doubt know that Yoga saved my life 🙏

.

With a deep bow of gratitude,

Mary Helen
