Meet @caseyurban sharing her #yogastory with us. These are her words ๐Ÿ’š

(TW: Bulimia + suicidal ideation) "My bottom with bulimia had me bingeing and purging for over 10 hours a day"

.

"At one point I told my parents I might run my car off the road. I was depressed and tired of fighting. After going to treatment for bulimia at age 23, I relapsed on and off for many years until I finally found true recovery in my late 20โ€™s

.

The wild part was...I was teaching YOGA during the darkest days of my bulimia. I remember confiding in my therapist about how ashamed I felt. Who was I to be telling people how to live healthy, happy lives?

.

She taught me about a concept I carry with me to this day: the wounded healer. Just because we are hurting doesnโ€™t mean we canโ€™t help heal others. That concept kept me going until I finally found true recovery & now, I teach it to clients

.

How did I finally recover? I took a break from teaching yoga & being up in front of people. I bought a one way ticket to Santiago, Chile after finishing my degree from the University of Texas at Austin at age 27. I got a job teaching English and private yoga. Completing my degree later in life allowed me to fulfill a lifelong dream of living in another country and learning another language. Moving across the globe on a one way ticket taught me to let go and fully enjoy the calm of nourishing my body, mind, and spirit

.

In January 2020 I opened my eating disorder and body image coaching business and I havenโ€™t looked back since! My daughters (CJ, bonus daughter is 8 and Sydney is 19 months) are my inspiration. They keep me fighting to make this world a better place for ALL bodies, especially those which have been oppressed, silenced, and ignored

.

This final concept was introduced to me by Jack Kornfield: When we find ourselves in darkness, we need to see ourselves in the darkness of the womb, rather than the tomb. The darkness is constantly changing, evolving, and birthing us into something greater, bolder, and powerful beyond measure"
